Head Coach Mary Gibson

Mary Gibson started swimming at age twelve and qualified for the 1972 Olympic Trials four years later.  Mary was the first woman in Connecticut to break 1:00 in the 100 fly. She went on to swim at Virginia Commonwealth University as a freshman and then transferred to the University of Connecticut as a sophomore. While at UConn she earned All American honors twice.  In 2010 she was inducted into the University of Connecticut Sports Hall of Fame.  After college she swam for the Pensacola Masters, where she met future husband, Kevin.

Mary coached summer league swimming for several years and the Upper Montgomery County Y Masters in the 1980s. More recently she coached at the Curl Burke swim club, a USS swim team based in the DC area.
Past coaches include:

Frank Brennan began his aquatic career as an open water swimmer while stationed with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA. One of the original members of the Manta Rays 2004, Frank coaches Tuesday and Friday mornings at 6am working on stroke technique and interval training. He has served as a stroke and turn judge for US Swimming age group meets. He has competed in the Waikiki Roughwater, La Jolla Roughwater/Gatorman, Alcatraz and the Great Chesapeake Bay swims.

While he prefers open water, Frank will swim in pools when the temperature and sea nettles force him indoors. Watching the black line go by, Frank contemplates future goals including the Bermuda Around the Sound, LaJolla Rough Water with the entire Manta Ray team and FINA Worlds.
